ISH implements Perioperative Transformation
Strategies at St. John’s Hospital, IL
West Orange, New Jersey- August 3, 2004;
ISH today announced the implementation of a Perioperative
Transformation Strategy with St. John’s
Hospital, Springfield IL. Saint John’s Hospital
(SJH) previously engaged ISH to create a “Roadmap
to Benefits Realization” to transition the
implementation of the SIS perioperative information
system into an enterprise-wide IT-Enabled Business
Strategy for Perioperative Services. The “Roadmap”
included the creation of a future state business
model, definition of specific operational and
financial ROI, and a detailed task and resource
plan for the implementation.
The implementation will include new processes
and functionality for PAT, Intraoperative Documentation,
Scheduling, ADT interface, and Item Master interface
to support case costing plus the implementation
of Preoperative, Anesthesia, and PACU documentation,
consolidation of Scheduling operations, Preference
Card build, Rules Based Charging, and Custom Reporting
/ Information Access. An additional focus will
be on Revenue Enhancement (RE).
“Within the RE strategy ISH has designed
a comprehensive approach that combines existing
best practice at SJH along with ISH recommended
supplemental best practice that results in an
extremely conservative $10.1 million dollar savings
over three years,” stated John Marchisin,
Executive Vice President, ISH. “The majority
of this savings is derived from increased OR utilization
for MOR and PAV type case mixes to improve suite
utilization to the industry best practice of 80%.
The remainder of the savings is derived from improving
the charge capture processes, designing a new
charge master, designing an automated procedure
costing initiative, and increasing performance
metric visibility.”
