STRATEGIES FOR CHRISTIANA CARE HEALTH SERVICES
Project to include education and instrument repair
initiatives
FAIRFIELD, NJ: ISH, Inc. announced today the
initiation of a comprehensive Sterile Processing
project at Christiana Care Health Services in
Newark, Delaware. Partnering with TRE, LLC (Total
Repair Express), they will provide a comprehensive
analysis of staff competencies and the implementation
of an education program.
ISH will initiate the project with a sterile
processing staff competency analysis to determine
the sterile processing staff’s knowledge
base. The analysis would encompass the entire
continuum of the Sterile Processing department
which would include:
• Decontamination procedures, including
methods of cleaning and disinfection, handling
and care of instruments, asepsis and environmental
standards
• Preparation and Packaging, including instrument
set setup and instrument knowledge, as well as
preparation and packaging procedures
• Sterilization, including parameters based
on type of sterilizers used in the department,
biological monitoring and testing, and packaging
of trays on sterilization carts
• Information technology, including use
of an Instrument Asset Management System, and
the accuracy of instrument set lists
• Current competency tools.
Utilizing the ISH hands-on approach and working
with each individual staff member covering all
three shifts ensures recommendations made for
an enhanced Christiana QA program meet the specific
needs of their environment and sterile processing
delivered services.
At the conclusion of the analysis phase and acceptance
of recommendations by Christiana leadership, ISH
will provide a hands-on educator for three months
to:
• Develop and implement a new competency
program incorporating Christiana’s orientation
program
• Develop a QA program baseline measurements
and reporting
• Educate the current staff based on competency
findings and individual needs
• Mentor, and educate the Sterile Processing
supervisors surrounding the ongoing management
of the developed QA program and measurements reporting.
