Dear Mr. Uliano,
It is not my normal policy or protocol to write
an open reference, but in the case of Steve Kammar
I must make an exception. I was compelled to write
this letter to express my appreciation and thanks
to a man who, in my opinion, reshaped my thinking
of ISH.
Steve came to Eastern Maine Medical Center and
took over a situation. which was, in my estimation,
a disaster. His ability to think on his feet,
assess a bad situation, and work with what was
given him are his best qualities. He was able
to communicate to the staff and management with
a sense of reassurance and knowledge.
Eastern Maine Medical Center was in the process
of making a major change in the way we dealt with
surgical supplies; additionally, we had.to deal
with cultural change and multiple locations, Steve
came to us and quickly assessed.the status of
the situation and devised a plan to correct previous
problems and established lines of communication
with staff and management. He maintained those
lines of communication, and in doing so created
educational opportunities-for staff to learn and
be involved in the process of change.
He was able to work with senior leadership and
provide needed assurances of where we were with
the center core supply process and meet expected
deadlines. Essentially, he did what he said he
would do when he said he would do it. This established
needed respect for him and his company that I
feel was damaged severely prior to his arrival.
He set into motion needed polices and procedures
to continue his work as well as identified risk
and work to be completed over time. In giving
the template to carry on and expand what he has
done demonstrates his willingness to make us part
of the process and establish ownership on our
part. .
I have asked that Steve come back in a few months
to review and critique the work he started and
see what we at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Surgical
Services have done in his absence. This is the
best accolade in my estimation of a person's work,
asking him to come back and review what he established.
I would not hesitate to work with Steve Kammar
in the future and I recommend him to any facility
that needs his expertise.
Sincerely,
Tom E. Callan, RN, MHA
Administrator, Surgical Services
